Five Feet Above Sea Level

EVEN HERE, in itty bitty Rhode Island, upon this Bay of the Narragansetts with the aid of a cheap zoom lens and an old digital camera, yes even here the curvature of the earth is apparent.

The tall buildings of Providence, Rhode Island along with a few wind turbines for generating electricity, form the backdrop or top third of this photo.  The bottom two thirds of the photo show a part of Narragansett Bay.   The view is looking mostly north, or north-west-north and the photo was taken at a location on Narragansett Bay about a mile or two south and a bit west of Bristol Neck.  The curvature of the earth is noticed by looking at where the water in the photo meets city.  I'd guess by height of eye above the water was about five feet.  Photo taken in late August of 2016 by Captain Bill Podzon.  Sailing Hither and Thither.
"Where's your Eldridge?"  she asked.

"Haven't yet picked up a copy this year."  I sheepishly replied.

"An up to date copy of Eldrige is indispensable."  she reprimanded.

I pulled in or let out the port jib sheet, or maybe it was the mainsheet.  Just an inch or two.  I don't think it really needed any adjustment, probably just a nervous twitch.

"That chart in Eldridge with the height of eye height of landmass,  that chart would be nice right now."  She muttered almost under her breath with a quiet subtle definate finality.
