A Quick Lone Maniac Blast

SUMMER INSTANTLY ARRIVED TODAY and this humble sailing blogger could not resist cutting loose for a quick much needed fix.

A healthy beat to weather out to the Brenton R-2 Buoy of Narragansett Bays Entrance Channel in my Albin Vega 27 on May, 25, 2016.  I know the topsides look a bit crusty but the old girl still sails sweet!  Photo by Captain Bill Podzon.  Sailing Hither and Thither.

My first sail of 2016 was a lone maniac blast.  Fortunately or unfortunately I didn't have the patience to wait for company.  I guess I just snapped.

After a quick beat to weather out to the R-2 Buoy of Narragansett Bays Entrance Channel I turned around and basked in a lazy downwind vagabundo reach.  The wind blew about 15-20 knots out of the south I'd guess with an air temp in the mid 70's.  Photo by Captain Bill Podzon.  Sailing Hither and Thither.

Heading back to port was a return to reality, I think.

Making way downwind back into Narragansett Bays East Passage.  Fort Weatherall is the land mass on the left.  Just to the right of Fort Weatherall in the Clingstone House on a Rock.  The Newport Bridge lies behind Fort Weatherall and Clingstone.  Photo by Captain Bill Podzon.  Sailing Hither and Thither.

A quick tease of a sail is better than no sail at all.  I'd almost forgotten what the sweet honey tasted like.

With Newport's Hammersmith Farm as a backdrop, an Erickson 30 sailboat on the left and a smart looking Canadian Flagged vessel on the right enjoy the lovely summerlike day.  Photo by Captain Bill Podzon.  Sailing Hither and Thither.

It was tough returning, well, not really.

Well, maybe.

My quilt of a mainsail partially frames a couple of World Match Racing Tour yachts that are practicing for the upcoming event to be view from Fort Adams on May 30 through June 4.  Photo by Captain Bill Podzon.  Sailing Hither and Thither.

Back to port means a return to normal-sea.

The wind kind of died down upon rounding Fort Adams and making way back into Newport Harbor.  Photo by Captain Bill Podzon.  Sailing Hither and Thither.

Fair Winds
