NO DRYING SAILS

Those doggone sailors blowing into into town and hogging entire parks!  Some people may wish to sit on a bench not covered in a sail I'll have you know.  Imagine if a J boat decided to dry its spinnaker?

An unusual item on the list of NO NO's, "NO DRYING SAILS".
I don't know how much area this park covers.  The silly NO DRYING SAILS rule however hath inspired me to go on a winter math binge.  And, being an American long indoctrinated (I use that term frequently it seemeth) in measuring distance in feet, inches, and nautical miles etc; and measuring area in Football Fields (the American gridiron), Central Parks and square feet; we can take an hyper caffeinated voyage through a mild mathematical workout.
_____

An American Football Field covers 57,600 square feet.
Central Park covers 36,715,852.8 square feet.

My Albin Vega 27 is said by some to have 341 square feet of sail area.
It would take about 169 Albin Vega suits of sail to completely cover an American Football Field.
57,600 divided by 341 equals 168.914965.

Roughly 107,671 Albin Vega suits of sail would completely cover Central Park.
36,715,852.8 divided by 341 equals 107,671.123.

Pretty fun aye?  Hmmmm, so how many of your boat's suit's of sail would it take to cover a football field?  Maybe that's something to think about when watching the big game.

_____

The USS Constitution has 42,710 square feet of sail.
1.35 USS Constitution suits of sail would cover a football field.
A little less than 860 USS Constitution suits of sail would cover Central Park.

A Sunfish has 75 square feet of sail.
768 Sunfish sails would cover a football field.
489,545 Sunfish sails would cover Central Park.

Fair Winds
Captain Bill
